Exponent Energy raises ₹200 crore for 15-minute rapid charging expansion
The Ather-alumni-founded charging startup scales beyond Bengaluru and Delhi with 360 ONE Asset and TDK Ventures leading.
Exponent Energy, the Bengaluru startup promising 15-minute rapid charging for commercial EVs, raised ₹200 crore (~$21.1 million) in a round co-led by 360 ONE Asset and TDK Ventures — taking its total funding to $65.7 million.
The round
- Leads: 360 ONE Asset, TDK Ventures
- Participants: Hitachi Ventures (first India energy bet), Eight Roads, Lightspeed, 3one4 Capital, AdvantEdge VC, YourNest
- Post-money valuation (filing-based): ~₹1,200–1,300 crore
Why it's different
Exponent focuses exclusively on commercial mobility — not passenger cars:
- Technology claims 15-minute charging with 3,000+ charging cycles of battery life
- Battery packs from 10 kWh (3W) to 420 kWh (buses)
- ~200 charging stations across Bengaluru and Delhi
Founder Arun Vinayak's framing: "For every dollar of battery we sell, we make three to four dollars on energy." Commercial vehicles are ~10% of Indian vehicles but consume ~70% of transport energy — a roughly 50× more valuable market than 2Ws.
Context
The round comes as Exponent's co-founder Sanjay Byalal moved to an advisor role and Greaves Cotton's Sandeep Divakaran joined as CEO of Exponent One — the company's EV financing arm.
Exponent is betting that commercial energy is the real EV business — charging networks and battery-as-energy, not vehicle manufacturing.Advertisement
