SUN Mobility and Bounce Infinity announced a partnership to deploy 30,000 electric scooters on SUN's battery-swapping network — described as India's largest EV deployment under the battery-as-a-service (BaaS) and mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) models.
The deal
- Fleet: 30,000 Bounce Infinity E1 scooters (95+ km per swap)
- Markets: Bengaluru, Hyderabad first; then Mumbai, Pune, Delhi NCR
- Network: 600+ swap stations across 19 cities; 1M+ swaps, 30M+ km/month
- Models: BaaS (buy scooter without battery) + MaaS (rent scooter + unlimited swaps)
BaaS decouples the battery cost from the vehicle — the single biggest line item in an EV. MaaS goes further: operators get vehicles, batteries AND swap access in one subscription, eliminating capex and range anxiety for gig fleets.
Why it matters
This is the template for commercial EV deployment in India: vehicle OEM + swap-network operator, with the network owning the energy economics. SUN Mobility (a Sun Group + Maini Group JV, co-founded by Reva's Chetan Maini) has since expanded MaaS to Zypp Electric's 10,000-vehicle fleet.
The swap model's pitch to fleets: zero battery capex, zero charging downtime, 2-minute swaps — utilisation is the whole game.Advertisement
